These pictures were taken at the Museum of the Warsaw Uprising. This museum is dedicated to research and teaching about the uprising of the Poles in Warsaw and the Polish underground movement. This was an area of WWII I knew very little of. The Polish underground under the direction of the Polish government in exile in Britain began to fight the Germans as the Soviet Troops sat at the outside of the city letting the underground fight the Germans hoping to let the Poles push the Germans out of the city. The courage of the Poles is not to be believed. In the pictures you will see an over sized replica of the sewers in Warsaw. The members of the underground lived in these sewers. These were completely dark, filled with vermin and human excrement. They would live in these sewers and come out to attack the Germans.
The Germans would pour gasoline down the sewers to burn out the resistance or just to burn them alive.
During this period when the Poles were isolated between the Germans and the Soviets the allies would drop supplies to the Poles. Most of the help the Allies sent were confiscated by the Germans. The pictures you see are of some of the supplies dropped for the Poles
